Gentleberg launches its first unique shoe collection

Just because you can’t change everything, doesn’t mean you should do nothing. That’s the motto Matthijs Berg, the 27-year old founder of the new shoe label Gentleberg, lives by. When looking for classic, dress shoes to complement a suit he discovered that there were no suitable vegan alternatives available. Therefore, he took matters into his own hands and decided to start his own shoe label, making his vegan lifestyle consistent with his career. Berg has walked the walk and turned to Hyphen United, a footwear- and development agency specialized in designing and developing shoes. That’s where the story begins.

Gentleberg is on a mission

All around the world, people from all ages and subcultures, are adapting to a vegan lifestyle. The new shoe label Gentleberg is responding to this growing consumer interest and demand for animal-friendly alternatives, including shoes. However, veganism still suffers from a dull and dusty image. By introducing these slick dress shoes for men, the label aims to get rid of this improper reputation. There’s still a long way to go, but it’s a big step in the right direction.

If the shoe fits, wear it

The first collection, developed under the supervision of Hyphen United, focused on perfecting one style: the Derby. This style comes in three models and four different colors, including brown suede. If this color will be part of the first collection depends on the success of the crowdfunding campaign. All models – both the uppers and linings – are made from premium microfibers and come with a self-designed, iconic rubber outsole. The shoes are finished with subtle Amsterdam-inspired details in the stitching and soles; a nod to the brand’s home base.

Crowdfunding campaign

On the 7^th of May 2019, Gentleberg launched its campaign on Kickstarter, the world’s largest funding platform for creative initiatives. Berg’s goal is to reach the funding goal of €25.000 within 30 days. How does the campaign work? Consumers – including you – can order a pair of shoes online in the pre-sale. The purchase will be made by credit card, but the reserved amount of the order will only be debited if the funding goal will be fully achieved. If sufficient funding is collected, the consumers will receive their pair of Gentlebergs within two months.
